Internship: Butchershop Creative

Getting my dream internship during a global pandemic? Not bad. A collection of thoughts on being a copywriter intern at Butchershop Creative. | June 2020-August 2020

Dear Future Butchershop Interns,

Congratulations! You secured your Butchershop Internship. You beat out your competition and the other Butchershoppers saw potential in you. As a former intern myself, I must emphasize something.

See the value in this.

Firstly, Butchershop is a special agency made of special people. They’ll trust you more than you’d expect to be trusted as an intern, so give them the same in return. They’ll treat you as their equal, so show up with the confidence and skill that led you here, but maintain the humility and open-mindedness that enables you to learn.

You’ll learn more if you’re open to all the opportunities. Every single one. As a copywriting intern, I was expecting to write headlines and taglines. I was not expecting to be interviewed by our CEO on a livestream in front of 400 people. It was scary as hell, but a great experience. You’ll get to do some cool things as a Butchershop intern, so take advantage them!

Lastly, chill out. Your job is to learn. Ask a lot of questions. Use the help of your mentor and crewmates. It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you’re trying.

Again, congratulations. You’re in for a fun and fruitful three months. Go get ‘em.
